Siegrist Vermillion Public Library on Tuesday\, March 12th\, 2019 at 5:00 pm as we welcome home Kim Clodfelter\, author of the new book\, Cloddy: Coach Dwane "Cloddy" Clodfelter\, a Pioneer in the Integration of NCAA College Basketball. Cloddy is a biography about Kim's father Dwane "Cloddy" Clodfelter\, former men's basketball coach at the University of South Dakota. Coach Clodfelter was a pioneer in the integration of college basketball during the 50's and 60's. From humble beginnings\, Cloddy grew up in a small town in South Dakota during the Great Depression. After graduating from Woonsocket High School in 1936\, he earned a two-year teaching degree at Southern Teachers College and then began a forty-five-year teaching and coaching career. Cloddy became the men's basketball coach at USD in 1954. At that time\, college basketball was not fully integrated. In Cloddy's first year as men's basketball coach\, he recruited two black brothers from Brooklyn\, New York. For the next thirteen years\, he continued to recruit minority athletes and\, along the way\, met with stiff resistance. Cloddy is a testament to hard work\, courage\, and loyalty.
