SUMMARY:Scholastic Art & Writing Awards
DESCRIPTION:Presented by the University of South Dakota Art and English Departments in partnership the Alliance for Young Artists & Writers\, the 96th Scholastic Art & Writing Awards are the country's longest-running and most prestigious scholarship and recognition program for creative students in grades 7 12. This year\, nearly 340\,000 works of art and writing were submitted nationally. Since the program's founding in 1923\, the Awards have fostered the creativity and talent of millions of students and include a distinguished list of alumni including Andy Warhol\, Truman Capote\, Richard Avedon\, Philip Pearlstein\, and Sylvia Plath. More recently\, Stephen King\, Richard Linklater\, Zac Posen\, and Lena Dunham received Scholastic Art & Writing Awards when they were teens.\n\nAt the regional level\, works earn Honorable Mention\, Silver Key\, or Gold Key distinction. Gold Key work advances to the national level where it is evaluated against others from across the country. National awards include Gold and Silver Portfolio\, Gold and Silver Medal\, and American Visions & Voices.\n\nThis exhibit features Gold Key art and writing submitted by students from across South Dakota.
