Now in its 9th year, the Nick Nygren Memorial Blood Drive at Vermillion Ace Hardware continues to pay tribute to Nick Nygren, a longtime and devoted blood donor whose commitment to saving lives left a lasting mark on the Vermillion community. His legacy lives on through this annual drive, a testament to the profound difference one person’s generosity can make.
Why does your blood donation matter? Every two seconds, someone in the United States needs blood. This summer, local hospitals are operating with critically low reserves, putting vulnerable patients at risk. Cancer patients, accident victims, mothers giving birth, and children undergoing surgery all depend on a steady, local blood supply.
“Right now, patients in our community are depending on the generosity of their neighbors. Blood demands take no vacations, and our local hospital patients are in need. We cannot manufacture blood, it can only come from caring community members like you,” states Ken Versteeg, Executive Director, Community Blood Bank.
Every donor will receive a $20 Dairy Queen gift card and an All American Blood Donor T-shirt as a token of gratitude for their commitment to local patients in need.
Donors can schedule a donation appointment by logging into www.cbblifeblood.org, select “Donate Blood / Blood Drive Calendar,” choose July 21, and select either Ace Hardware or Sanford Vermillion or call Community Blood Bank at 605-331-3222. Walk-ins are welcomed, but appointments are encouraged.
Community Blood Bank serves as the sole blood provider to Sanford Vermillion Medical Center and 42 other regional hospitals. Every donation stays local serving local patients who are counting on you.
Donor must be at least 110 lbs. or more, be in good general health, and be at least 16 years old or older (16 year olds will need a signed parent consent found at www.cbblifeblood.org.). Please bring a valid photo ID and eat a good meal and drink plenty of fluids beforehand.
