Description
For Lunch and Learn in November, the library will be ushering in National Education Week a few days early with a presentation on the story of young Malawian inventor and engineer, William Kamkwamba. When drought struck the village of Wimbe, 14-year-old Kamkwamba used a book he found at the community library to create a functioning wind turbine that was able to power multiple electrical appliances in his family’s house. He subsequently accomplished projects that include clean water, malaria prevention, solar power, and lighting for his family compound. Since then, Kamkwamba’s story has been documented through his autobiography, The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind, a documentary, William and the Windmill, and a Netflix drama released in early 2019. Learn more about William Kamkwamba while you eat your lunch! This event is free and open to the public.
