Matter Law Office is located in the historic Carnegie Library. We are right next door to the Vermillion Public Library.
Matter Law Office is located in the historic Carnegie Library building. The building has stood for over 100 years, first opening to the public as a library in 1904. The building remained a library until the mid-1970s when Vermillion's new public library opened right next door. The building has operated as a law office ever since, starting with the law firm Mimick, Nelson, and McCulloch.
James E. McCulloch practiced out of this office until his death in 2021. He founded the McCulloch Law Office in 1999 as a general law office. He provided legal services to individuals and the Vermillion community for over 40 years and served as the Vermillion City Attorney for nearly 20 years.
Brent Matter began working at McCulloch Law Office as a legal intern in 2018. Upon receiving his license to practice law, Brent worked with James until his death. Brent then founded the Matter Law Office, which continues to operate out of the Carnegie building to this day.
