A community wide event, that started as a way to celebrate the end of harvest by the forefathers of the community. Every year after the completion of harvest the community would celebrate by barbequing ribs over hand dug pits below the bluff along the banks of the Vermillion river. The feast was cooked using corn cobs. The entire Vermillion community was welcome.
The modern day event has a KCBS sponsored BBQ cookoff, with around 30 teams from a cross the Midwest. There are also many local teams that carry on the BBQ tradition. The event features many activities for the entire community including a kids activity area, cornhole tournament, 5K USMC color run, a show and shine car show, many vendors including old fashion root beer, cotton candy and of course RIBS!! Last but not least there is music and dancing.
The event is held on Friday night and all day Saturday, the first weekend after Labor Day.
