About Us

The mission of the South Dakota Shakespeare Festival is to engage, connect, and inspire communities by
exploring our shared human experiences through inclusive, professional Shakespeare productions and
theatre arts education. Our company values encompass: access, inclusion, integrity, and artistic excellence.

Since 2012 the South Dakota Shakespeare Festival (SDSF) has been producing free, world-class, Shakespeare in the Park, in Vermillion, South Dakota, accompanied by a wide array of education and engagement programming. We value diversity and inclusion in our work, and seek to create theatre and build audiences that reflect and nourish the diversity of our communities.

Now entering their 10th anniversary season, the SDSF is excited to produce Shakespeare’s delightful comedy, ''Twelfth Night, or What You Will'', June 17-20, 2021, in Vermillion’s Prentis Park. Socially responsible mitigation protocols will be implemented throughout every stage of the rehearsal and production process, to create an uplifting, inspiring, and safe experience. Alongside this exciting programming, the SDSF will continue their commitment to education and outreach, adapting as needed to offer educational programming in partnership with Sesdac (offering support services for adults with disabilities), Sanford Care Center, Minnehaha Juvenile Detention Center, Vermillion Public Library, USD’s Upward Bound, and regional schools. Performances and education experiences are being planned for both live delivery, and through video streaming and digital platforms.
