This year's candidates are Tammy Clodfelter and Carol Voss-Ward (Incumbent). The elected official will serve a three-year term for the Vermillion School Board.
About Tammy Clodfelter:
About Carol Voss-Ward (Incumbent):
My name is Carol Voss-Ward and I am running for re-election to the Vermillion School Board. I am currently serving as school board vice-president and am in my final year of a three-year term. Both my husband and I are Vermillion School District alumni, and we are parents of two recent VHS graduates. Sam graduated in 2020 and Charlie graduated in 2022.
I have spent most of my adult years working in some way in public education. I have six years of experience teaching middle school English and social studies in Maryland and Nebraska. I also have experience administering federal educational programs that support student success. My current work is as the coordinator of Coyote Career Kickstart, a program supporting students from rural high schools with career services and peer mentoring I also served as director of TRIO Student Support Services, a program that supports undergraduate students who are first-generation, low-income, or with disabilities.
In my past three years as a school board member, I have served on the Finance, Policy, Building, and Vermillion Public School Foundation committees. I helped craft reasonable COVID policies that kept our school doors open, supported our investment in a new elementary school, helped to bring increases in teacher and staff pay, and worked to protect vulnerable students. My goal as a school board member is and will continue to be to make wise, thoughtful decisions on behalf of all students and families in the district and be approachable to all stakeholders in our district, including students, parents, teachers, administrators, and the community.
About Tammy Clodfelter:
My name is Tammy Clodfelter and I am a mom of two active boys in the district who participates in many sports that include wrestling, football, and golf. I volunteered with the Vermillion Youth Wrestling program for the past five years. I attend a local church and feel my faith helps keep me grounded in making the best decisions possible in my personal and professional life.
I have been a School Psychologist since 2010 and am a USD alumnus. As a school psychologist, I evaluate students to determine whether or not they are eligible for special education, provide consultation services regarding academics and behavior, and collaborate with stakeholders. I have a background in counseling at HSC and in the Army. I served one tour in Iraq during OIF, and serving our country was one of the biggest honors in my life.
I believe students need quality instruction and curriculum in academics and social-emotional learning, positive learning environments, and mental health services. I will bring a fresh perspective to the school board with my professional experience of working in schools for the past 13 years.
